2027: The agent sprawl paradox
Every revenue leader we talk to is working toward the same thing — fewer people, more agents, dramatically more output per head.
When we look at the top AI-native companies, they're hitting $2 million to $4 million revenue per employee. The median SaaS company today is at $130K. And the playbook to close this enormous gap seems obvious: pair humans with agents and let them rip.
That's exactly what's happening. In the last few months, we've talked to dozens of orgs that are doing this. Adding agents for every function, use case, and workflow. They built agents for sales, CS, marketing, and ops. They're living in Claude Projects, Zapier workflows, MCP-connected tools, and autonomous email sequences.
And it's creating a problem that nobody planned for.
The agent sprawl paradox
Here's what we're seeing. A team of 8 people now has 30+ agents each. That's 240 agents running across the GTM org. None of them talk to each other. None of them share context. Each one is pulling from whatever data source its creator happened to connect it to.
Unlike humans — who can overhear each other in Slack, absorb context from a pipeline review, or pick up on a strategy shift in a team meeting — agents have zero visibility into what the other agents are doing. And it's nearly impossible for leadership to ensure every agent across the team is using the same underlying data.
This is the agent sprawl paradox: we deploy more agents to become more productive, and we end up less productive because the coordination cost between all of these agents spirals out of control.

Agent sprawl at varying severity levels
Here's what it looks like when this hits.
The mild stuff. A rep's agent preps a meeting brief but misses that the prospect mentioned a competitor on an earlier call. That transcript lived in another rep's Gong history. The agent didn't have access. Rep walks in underprepared. Not the end of the world, but not great.
The real problems. Two agents get asked the same question about enterprise pricing. One pulls from an outdated marketing deck and quotes a flat rate that got deprecated six months ago. The other queries Salesforce and returns the current usage-based model. A rep grabs the wrong one and sends it to a prospect. You find out in the deal review.
The disasters. We just saw a rep communicate an entire product offering that didn't exist. An agent found an internal roadmap doc in Drive, treated it as current, and built a proposal around capabilities that haven't shipped yet. The prospect signed based on the proposal. Now there's a contractual commitment to deliver something that isn't real.
We saw another org where an autonomous agent sent outreach to an account they already had an active deal with. The agent didn't know the deal existed. It just saw an account with no recent activity in its slice of the data and fired off a cold email like they'd never met.
Every one of these gets more frequent and more severe as teams build more autonomous agents. The error rate scales with the agent count.
Centralized intelligence to curb agent sprawl
The teams that are furthest along are all landing in the same place. Every one of their agents is operating from different sources of truth and different layers of context. And the cost of fixing that after the fact is eating the productivity gains that justified deploying agents in the first place.
Where this is heading is toward a centralized intelligence layer — a shared source of truth that sits between the raw data coming in (calls, emails, Slack, CRM, documents) and the actions going out (outreach, decks, pipeline updates, meeting prep, campaign execution).

The agents still do the work. But they all work from the same preprocessed, governed, agent-ready layer. The error rate drops. Outputs become consistent. And you can actually scale agent count without scaling chaos.
